A Marie Chouinard show censored by Facebook

MISE À DAY

Montreal contemporary dance company Marie Chouinard faces censorship from Facebook and Instagram.

Photos and promotional video of his show “M” have been removed from Danse Danse's social networks because they violate the rules on nudity of Meta, which controls Facebook and Instagram.

The trailer for the show shows the male and female dancers shirtless. For Meta, this violates its policy regarding nudity and sexual activity.

In a press release, Danse Danse questions the possibilities of promoting performing arts and dance on social networks and deplores what it deems it to be censorship.

It is however possible to watch the trailer on YouTube.

The show M will be presented from January 31 to February 4 at Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts.
