A fire of electrical origin broke out this Wednesday, June 12, around 11 p.m., in the nursery of the departmental childhood family home, located at 1 rue des Tourterelles, district Aiguelongue in Montpellier.

This is a reception establishment for minors in difficulty or in danger entrusted by their family or by legal order to the social assistance service. rsquo;childhood.

The flames, which started under a staircase in a technical room, quickly spread to strollers and uncontrolled storage generating significant smoke.< /p>

27 children from 3 months to 7 years old

The fire was extinguished by the personnel present using four fire extinguishers. Reconnaissance as well as ventilation of the premises were carried out by the Hérault firefighters who arrived in large numbers.

In total, twenty-seven children from 3 months to 7 years old as well as six adults who had inhaled smoke were examined on site. After assessment, there was no need to transport them to the Lapeyronie hospital center for additional examinations.

Building closed until further notice

Please note, however, that given the damage caused and the restoration work to be planned, particularly on the fire safety system, the building was closed until new order.

All of the people impacted (children and employees of the structure) were redirected to another reception center in Clapiers. The security commission will be contacted before reopening the establishment.
