A spectator victim of three cardiac arrests: the AF League match between Béziers Angels and Chamalières postponed at the last minute
|Après de longues minutes d’incertitude, le match a été reporté. Midi Libre – SYLVIE CAMBON
Initially scheduled for this Saturday, December 20 (8 p.m.), the meeting between the Béziers Angels and Chamalières, counting for the 17th day of the AF League, was postponed to a later date due to a spectator suffering from several cardiac arrests.
The party should have been great on Saturday evening at the Béziers sports center. But the evening finally took a turn that everyone would have liked to avoid. While there were only a few minutes of warm-up left before the kick-off of the 17th episode of the AF League season between the Béziers Angels and Chamalières, a spectator present in the aisles was the victim of several cardiac arrests.
First taken care of by a doctor present in the stands, then by the emergency services, the supporter was finally taken shortly before 9 p.m. to the hospital. According to the latest information in our possession, his condition had then been stabilized.
A unanimous decision
A relief for all those present at the sports hall, but which did not prevent the postponement of this meeting to a later date.
"These are moments that we would rather never have to face. The spectator suffered three cardiac arrests and was treated by a doctor, then by the Fire Department and the SAMU. After about 45 minutes, he was able to be taken to the Arnaud de Villeneuve hospital. The last news was that his condition was stabilized. We have to hope that he is well, it’s the only thing that matters today, confided Bernard Fages, the president of the Béziers Angels, after many minutes waiting around the decision to postpone this meeting or not.
"The girls and spectators saw everything, several players were particularly shocked. This situation had already happened last year for the girls of Chamalières and the spectator could not be resuscitated. So from the moment when several players from both teams were not psychologically ready to play, we decided, in agreement with the president of Chamalières, not to play this match."
A new date to set
It now remains to be seen when this poster can be replayed, at the heart of a period where the next few weeks promise to be very busy.
And in particular for the Béziers Angels, between the Coupe de France, the rest of the championship and a European quarter-final to be played in a few days. Calendar problems which nevertheless seem very secondary in such circumstances. The most important was elsewhere, Saturday evening, at the Palais des Sports in Béziers.
