A teacher got his student pregnant

A teacher at a Trois-Rivières high school who impregnated one of his 16-year-old students can still teach despite denunciations. 

« It's amazement and incomprehension, “reported to our Investigation Office a parent who recently filed a complaint against this teacher at the Center de services scolaire du Chemin-du-Roy.  

This father is not the only one to have denounced the teacher. In 2020, a colleague of the professor had expressed her discomfort to the management of her school (see other text). 

We have chosen to withhold the names of the victims allegations, of the teacher and his school in order to protect the identity of minors.  

Pregnant at 16  

It all started about 25 years ago, when the man began an intimate relationship with one of his students, who became pregnant. 

We contacted this woman, who confirmed having had a child with the teacher when she was a minor. Public documents and information on social networks have also corroborated her claim. 

The teenager knew the teacher while she was studying in high school at a private college in Mauricie. She fell in love with the teacher she dated for several months. 

Initially, the relationship was not known to the management of the college, said one of the directors of the private establishment, which has since closed. 

“We only knew about it after the facts have happened. Nothing was known [before the pregnancy],” he claimed, not recalling whether any action against the teacher was taken afterwards.

Second conquest 

In the same school, the teacher would then have fallen in love with another teenager to whom he also taught. Three children were born from this approximately 15-year relationship, all when the woman was an adult. The latter declined to comment. 

Two former classmates remember, however, that the intimate affair began when the teenager was a minor. This relationship was first hidden, but soon it became known to just about everyone, they say.  

“It was the first time that someone was really interested in her,” one of the former classmates told our Investigation Office. “Today, with my adult head, of course I would denounce. With hindsight, I would have liked adults to intervene,” said the same source.  

The man was subsequently hired by the Commission scolaire du Chemin-du-Roy , in Mauricie, where he still works.

Contacted several times, the teacher refused to respond to our interview request. Instead, he sent a formal notice from a lawyer. In her missive, Me Linda Lavoie notably requested that any report concerning her client or a member of her family not be published. 

In addition, the Sûreté du Québec would have met last summer witnesses to this story, according to our information.   

WIRE OF EVENTS 

• Spring 1997
  The teacher has a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.
• January 1998
  A child is born from the union between the teacher and this first 16-year-old teenager.
• Winter-Spring 2000
  The teacher begins an intimate relationship with another of his students, also 16 years old. The relationship will last a little over 15 years. Three children were born.
• Around 2002
  The teacher left the private college and became a teacher for the Commission scolaire du Chemin-du-Roy.
• Winter 2020
  A staff member of 'a public high school where the teacher works shares with management his unease about his colleague's history with two teenage girls.
• August 2022
  The father of a child informs the Center de services scolaire du Chemin-du-Roy of the teacher's past. After an internal investigation, the school organization chooses to keep him in post. 

Management says it can't do anything  

The Center de services scolaire (CSS) du Chemin-du-Roy maintains that it has “no reason” to take action against its teacher, although the latter had an intimate relationship with two teenage girls whom he taught.

“When we analyze our employment relationship with this person, spanning more than 20 years as well as the evidence submitted, no information allows us to take any action towards this employee”, indicated Anne-Marie Bellerose, door -word for the organization.

An internal investigation was conducted to reach this decision, added Ms. Bellerose, who assures that the CSS makes “no compromise” on the safety of its students.< /p>

Complaint and denunciation

The father of a student, who filed a complaint with the CSS last summer, however accuses the school body of “to detach from what happened before [his hiring]”.

“What message does it send to young girls, the fact that we tolerate this situation? That it's no use talking? It is trivializing unacceptable behavior, ”he told our Bureau of Investigation.

Two years earlier, at the beginning of 2020, a colleague of the teacher had informed the management of his school of the allegations against him.

“It is certain that I asked myself the question: what is this person still doing there in teaching? Someone dropped it somewhere, “commented this source, who requested anonymity.

This one assures that the director had taken the time to listen to him, but does not know what happened to his warning. The director refused our interview request.
