A video game reimbursed by Social Security ? The “medical” application Poppins for dyslexic children could be the first
|An application available on smartphones, called Poppins, could be the first video game to be reimbursed by Social Security.
A possible first. There are many children suffering from dyslexia in France, but a video game, considered a “medical application” could help them. It's called Poppins. If it is available by subscription and offered by certain mutual insurance companies, it could possibly be reimbursed by the Social Security, reports Le Parisien.
A video game aid
The main objective of Poppins: “help dyslexic children aged 7 to 11 improve their writing and reading skills”, underlines the Huffington Post, the tour in a fun way via games on smartphones or tablets.
These consist of logic questions or finding the right rhythm… Several activities of a few minutes that can vary depending on the person's developments.
"The application is based on rhythmic training protocols. Researchers have found that children with neurodevelopmental disorders generally have difficulties with a sense of rhythm. And this is what makes it possible to segment sounds in speech”, explained François Vonthron, creator of the start-up developing the project.
Clinically proven results
Due to the conclusive results of the application, notably with better reading speed and accuracy but also an improvement in the phonological skills of children with severe dyslexia, the creator of Poppins will submit a scientific dossier to the High Authority of Health before the end of the year. An effectiveness that has been clinically proven .
The aim of this approach is for the game, which comes in the form of a paid subscription, to be reimbursed by health insurance.
If the request is accepted, it will be a first. For the time being, you have to pay between 26 and 39 euros per month. Note that some mutual insurance companies cover part of this amount.
