A fire broke out in a residential building in Limoilou on Tuesday morning. About ten people had to be evacuated.
T he triplex located at the corner of 2e Avenue and 8e Rue was hit hard, just across from the Quebec Circus School. The neighboring buildings also suffered some damage.
At around 8:15 a.m., the firefighters were alerted by a citizen who was walking in the alley behind the accommodation. He saw fire burst from a balcony.
When they arrived, the firefighters of the Service de protection contre le feu de la Ville de Québec (SPCIQ) evacuated the residents of the triplex, as well as other accommodation around it.
Fire was started at the back of the two-story building, more than 80 firefighters fought the flames.
Some citizens will be able to return to their accommodation, while others will be supported by the Red Cross or will be relocated with relatives.
The Quebec Circus School allowed evacuated residents to take refuge inside their church.
An elderly woman was transported by ambulance, bothered by the smoke.
In the context of COVID-19 prevention isolation, firefighters must wear gloves, masks and goggles when interacting with citizens.
“In an emergency like this, after the intervention, we find out if they were contaminated or in quarantine because they have just returned from their trip. For the moment, I have not had the information that this was the case, ”indicates the SPCIQ spokesperson, Alexandre Lajoie.
An investigation is underway to find out the origin of the fire.
