An American student, accused of setting fire to the construction site of an abortion clinic in the conservative state of Wyoming (western), will be tried for arson, a court decreed on Friday.
Lorna Roxanne Green, 22, has pleaded not guilty to the sole charge she faces in the May 2022 fire investigation of this health center under construction in the town of Casper.
The clinic, whose opening was delayed for several weeks due to the fire, is the only one offering surgical abortions in this conservative state , where the procedure remains legal despite attempts at restrictions by elected Republicans.

According to the prosecution, the student threw gasoline at the scene after breaking a window. She has, according to the local press, admitted to being at the origin of the fire, adding that she acted because of her opposition to abortion.
The trial should open on July 24, according to local newspaper Oil City News.
Since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down constitutional abortion protections in June 2022, many conservative states have implemented restrictions — going as far as to the prohibition – to the right to practice voluntary terminations of pregnancy (IVG).
