“Administrative jumble”, “cantors of decline”… the mayor of La Grande-Motte cannot digest the ban on straw huts

Le jugement de la cour administrative d'appel de Toulouse interdisant définitivement l'installation des paillotes sur la plage du Grand Travers à La Grande-Motte a suscité de la part du maire, une vraie colère.

There's no holding back! Stéphan Rossignol, mayor of La Grande-Motte, reacted strongly to the judgment of the administrative court of Toulouse prohibiting the installation of private beaches on the site, classified as a Remarkable Coastal Area, of the Grand Travers.

"A public sea bathing service"

In a press release, the mayor pulls out all the stops to express his disagreement. The legitimacy of the associations in its commune first of all (two of them have taken legal action, the Grande-Motte Environnement Association and the Association of Residents and Friends of Grand Travers) is questioned, while the mayor dares the idea that private beaches are a… "public sea bathing service"

"The AGME and ARAGT associations which only include a handful of Grand-Motto members have surfed on this vision of the' #39;punitive ecology which goes against the reality of our coastline. The Grand Travers beach, which has hosted these beach concessions for 25 years with the strictest respect for their environment, will no longer be able this year to allow locals and tourists alike to benefit from their activity. While these three beach concessions – which offered a catering service and a public sea bathing service – represented 0.45% of the surface area of the Grand Travers beach, it will therefore be necessary to group all these concessions in the immediate vicinity of the homes and other seafront restaurants, in total inconsistency."

"Destructive Norms"

Angry with his associative opponents, the mayor is also angry with "our leaders" of which he believes "that'it would be high time to finally put an end to this drift carried by the champions of degrowth who come to ruin all the efforts of harmonious and reasoned development of our Territory. As the farmers' movement recently denounced, we must get rid of this administrative jumble and these standards that are destructive of our economy and our quality of life."

Defender of beach concessions, Stéphan Rossignol believes that they are "providers of numerous local jobs, work in concert with local producers and embody in this a strong link in short circuits, also called for by environmental associations. They constitute a pillar of our attractiveness, play a leading role in securing our beaches, provide sanitary facilities for the public, including non-customers.

On a crusade, the mayor announces that he will fight "so that the inconsistent regulatory texts are modified". &amp ;nbsp;
