Airport tragedy: Woman found dead 'entangled in conveyor belt system used to move luggage'

Une femme de 57 ans, qui n’était pas une employée, a été retrouvée morte ce jeudi 8 août dans la matinée après avoir été coincée dans un carrousel à bagages de l’aéroport.

The circumstances surrounding the tragedy at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport remain unclear. A 57-year-old woman died on Thursday, August 8, 2024, after being trapped in a baggage carousel, according to ABC and CBS.

< p>Chicago police confirmed that the victim, whose identity has not been released, was not an airport employee. Emergency services were contacted at around 7:45 a.m. local time (2:45 p.m. French time) to report an incident at Terminal 5 involving a woman trapped in a mechanism.

A restricted area and forbidden to the public

Upon their arrival, Rescuers found the 50-year-old "entangled in the conveyor belt system used to move luggage". She was pronounced dead at the scene. CCTV footage shows that the woman entered a restricted area that was off-limits to the public at 2:27am. The exact sequence of events between her entry and her death remains unknown. .

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the exact cause of death. Airport authorities and investigators are working together to understand how and why the woman was able to access this forbidden area, and to ensure that such tragedies do not happen again.
