Pour lutter contre les géants de la fast-fashion, un député Les Républicains propose qu'un malus de cinq euros soit ajouté au prix des vêtements qui ne respectent pas les normes sociales et environnementales.
Towards a penalty on "fast-fashion" ? This is the project of the Les Républicains de la Loire deputy, Antoine Vermorel-Marques, as revealed by Le Monde this Tuesday, February 13.
Unfair competition
The latter has just tabled a bill aimed at establishing a bonus-malus system on purchases of cheap, poor-quality clothing from fast-fashion, the best-known brands of which are Shein or Temu, established in Asia.
The latter offer thousands of new products per day, at an average price estimated at 7 euros, mainly targeting young customers and encouraging overconsumption.
At the microphone of Franceinfo, MP LR denounces "unfair competition" of & ;quot;large companies which do not create any jobs on European and French soil, which export their products 100% by plane and which do not respect our environmental, social and even sometimes health criteria, vis-à-vis all French textile manufacturers & quot;.
A penalty of five euros
The proposed law provides for the introduction of a penalty of five euros per item to penalize manufacturers and thus stem the harmful consequences of disposable fashion both on the environment and on public health.
Antoine Vermorel-Marques specifies that this is not an additional tax, but rather a penalty, on the polluter pays principle. Purchases of clothing that respect the environment and social and environmental standards will, however, be rewarded with a bonus.
In a video published on TikTok, using the codes of low-cost fashion platforms, MP LR also highlights the chemical substances with which the clothing and accessories of these brands are treated.& nbsp;
@antoinevermorel42 ? The clothes & 2€ which arrive by plane, contain substances harmful to health and end up on the beaches in Africa, that’s a no! I drop off at the National Assembly a bill to establish a bonus-malus in order to penalize brands and to encourage more virtuous approaches ♻️ #shein#sheinhaul#ecologie#fastfashion#stopshein#pourtoi#fyp @lookbookaly @menezangel_ @loufitlove @lila_drila @cilia.ghass @tifanywallemacq @veronika_cln @lia__toutcourt @iamm_mae.e@IAMM_MAE.E ♬ original sound – antoinevermorel
