Salagou
Already nominated last season for its wheelchair rugby awareness campaign, RCO Salagou is back this season in the Amateur Rugby Trophies.
“We continue to raise awareness with wheelchair rugby with the Montpellier Sharks”, explains Mathieu Oliver, wheelchair rugby player and educator in the club bringing together the cities of Lodève and Clermont-l’Hérault. “There were some new developments last season with the arrival of adapted para rugby, that is to say the practice of rugby for people with a mental handicap”, adds the one who is preparing a DEJEPS-Development of projects, territories and networks.
A dozen players, once a month, can discover the oval ball, in partnership with the Lodévois-Larzac sports health center.“On September 28, the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l’Hérault is organizing “Rugby pour tous”, with the morning dedicated to adapted rugby", announces Mathieu Oliver.
Béziers
Already elected in this category two years ago, the ASBH has continued to develop on the social aspect. Its structure “ASBH Vacances” “allows the association to have an impact other than rugby, specifies Camille Fermy, the director, while giving access to sports to all the youth of Béziers.”
Since its opening in July 2022, the leisure center, which welcomes 8-16 year olds, “a target that the city was unable to reach with its centers”, has been developing well, particularly through word of mouth. A campus has been created around the Raoul-Barrière stadium to expand the reception infrastructure.
“Since the summer of 2023, we have started to create sports stays to discover other sports. This summer we introduced diving to Argeles sur Mer, explains Camille Fermy. In the future, we would like to allow young people to discover snow and downhill skiing. »
Montpellier
Montpellier Hérault Rugby and its endowment fund “MHR Solidaire”, are also nominated for its social actions.
Thus, the Montpellier club was able to organize the 3rd edition of the Laura Bah tournament bringing together more than a hundred players. A tournament aimed at promoting health sports and more specifically rugby as a therapeutic tool. The traditional “Défi des Cistes” took place, for its 5th edition, at the beginning of June, taking the 67 participants to Clermont-Ferrand.
Not forgetting the Medico-Educational Institutes (IME) or the Therapeutic, Educational and Pedagogical Institutes (ITEP), whose residents can learn about the practice and values of rugby. On the occasion of the first Top 14 match, against Lyon, the MHR was able to pay 8 beneficiary associations the 74,000 euros of donations collected during the 2023-2024 season.
