A boy of only 8 years has tragically lost his life after leaving his day camp, Wednesday afternoon, by being struck by a car while crossing the street to go join his parent in the borough of South-West, in Montreal.
The accident occurred around 16h on the rue Saint-Ambroise, at the corner of rue du Square Sir-Georges-Étienne-Cartier. According to the team of the recreation Centre, cultural and sports (CRCS Saint-Zotique, the accident occurred at the time of the start of the day camp of the body.
The driver of a car, a 34 year old woman, would be locked-in to a mandatory stop while traveling east on the rue Saint-Ambroise. However, when she returned, the child would have crossed the street in front of her, causing the collision, reported Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
The arrival of relief, the young victim was still conscious, but had significant injuries at the bottom of the body. The child succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital.
The driver, meanwhile, has suffered a nervous shock, but did not have to be transported a hospital, said the officer Chèvrefils. A temporary 31-year-old was also in the car.
“This tragic event causes us to close the day camp for the next two days, Thursday the 23 and Friday the 24th of July. We will be back on Monday, July 27. Thank you for your understanding. It goes without saying that all our thoughts go out to the family,” said the team from the CRCS.

The mayor of the borough of Sud-Ouest, Benoit Dorais said he was “extremely saddened” by this tragedy. “Despite all the efforts of the first responders and the SPVM, it was unfortunately not possible to save the life of the young person.
