In the run-up to graduation, and with the return of warmer weather, the authorities want to put their eyes on it to spark discussions between young people and their parents about driving.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers at the Estrie highway station, as well as several partners, invite citizens to a road safety awareness activity that is considered the first in the region.
The awareness event will take place on May 18, from 9 am to 4 pm, in the parking lot of the rest area at exit 115 of Highway 10, Magog. Organizations in the region are making an appointment for the public for demonstrations that will make the young and old drivers think twice.
In addition to the SQ, the Régie de police de Memphrémagog, the Ministère des Transports, the Québec Roadside Inspectorate, Operation Red Nose, Ambulance de l’Estrie and the Société de l ‘assurance automobile du Québec.
“Several Sûreté du Québec specialists will be on site, including a road safety monitor, a collision scene investigator, a drug recognition assessor, a qualified breathalyzer technician and a recruiting officer,” explains Aurélie Guindon. of the SQ in Estrie.
“They will address various topics such as the risks associated with cell phone use while driving, and more specifically, reading and texting while driving and the safety of workers on the road. ”
Visitors will be able to attend demonstrations on the different types of collision. “Among other things, there will be a reconstruction of a serious collision scene using the vehicle simulator of barrels. The goal is to demonstrate the consequences of not buckling up in a crash, “says Guindon.
“In addition, another demonstration will be made to illustrate what blind spots mean for truck drivers. ”
The event is free and open to all citizens. We also take advantage of a day off at the CSRS to invite young people and their parents to attend. “We want to provoke discussions about the dangers of driving,” says Guindon.
“They are invited to meet the various stakeholders gathered at the same place for the occasion. It is a first to see so many organizations gathered in this way in Estrie for an awareness-raising activity. ”
Recall that the prosecution of police interventions, combined with a more responsible behavior on the part of road users, reduces the number of collisions, injuries and deaths that occur on the roads of Quebec.
