Le premier cas de dengue de la saison a été détecté dans l’Hérault, à Montpellier. L’Agence Régionale de Santé appelle à la vigilance face au risque de propagation lié au moustique.

A resident of Hérault has contracted dengue fever, a tropical disease transmitted by mosquitoes, without having traveled recently, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) has just announced d’Occitanie. This indigenous case of the disease was reported by a patient who developed in the Port-Marianne district of Montpellier, and near the old center and the Pérols cemetery.

The alert given at the end of the week

This is the first case of dengue fever recorded in mainland France this season. In 2023, 22 cases were recorded in Occitanie. The patient was taken care of and his state of health does not cause any concern. According to our information, it was the results of its analyzes which raised the alarm at the end of last week. This Monday, July 8, the ARS investigation was still underway to try to determine the place of contraction of the virus. In mainland France, dengue fever is transmitted by the tiger mosquito.

What symptoms and how to react ?

In most cases, the illness remains mild despite disabling symptoms similar to those of the flu, mainly high fever, joint pain and severe headaches.

If you have these symptoms and have stayed in the Montpellier-Port Marianne area or in Pérols, the Regional Health Agency recommends that you go to your doctor as soon as possible.

L’ARS programs targeted actions

To prevent the spread of the virus, the ARS announces that it has planned preventive actions in the different sectors. In particular targeted mosquito control to eliminate larval breeding sites and adult mosquitoes, and a local survey to identify possible patients.
