Annecy Festival: entertainment is in the spotlight between June 13 and 18

Annecy Festival

It’s one of the biggest global events in the sector: starting this Monday, the smallest world of animation will meet at the Annecy International Festival. Focus on the programming and the films that will try to win the Cristal d'Or, one year later Flee.

In total, 500 films will be presented throughout this week. But only around ten compete for the prestigious Golden Crystal, won last year by Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen.

This Monday, June 13, on the opening program of the 46th Annecy Animation Festival, the highly anticipated Minions 2: once upon a time Gru, from Illumination studio. Also worth remembering among the films in competition: works inspired by real events, such as Charlotte, which traces the fate of Charlotte Salomon, a Jewish painter murdered by the Nazis in Auschwitz. And Nayola, a gripping dive into the history of Angola through the destiny of three women.

Four female directors are coming this year to defend their films. Among them, Atsuko Ishizuka, who presents the initiatory story of three Japanese teenagers (Goodbye). And Amandine Fredon, who co-directs “Le Petit Nicolas” with Benjamin Massoubre, evoking their love and respect for the work of Sempé and Goscinny.

Out of competition, festival-goers will have the opportunity to debate one of the subjects that agitate the world of cinema and culture in general: the fight between streaming platforms and cinemas. There is no doubt that Disney's recent decision to broadcast Strange World directly on its Disney+ platform, without going through the cinema box French, should be talked about in the alleys of Annecy.
