Anti-Semitic attack on the tram in Montpellier: the alleged perpetrator will be tried this Monday

This 48-year-old Montpellier resident, identified on a video, is accused of having uttered anti-Semitic insults and of being the perpetrator of physical violence against a passenger on tram line 4. He was placed in pre-trial detention and will be tried this Monday before the judicial court.

The Montpellier resident suspected of having uttered anti-Semitic insults and of having attacked a tram passenger last Tuesday, near Avenue de Maurin, was placed in pre-trial detention this Friday. A decision by the detention and liberties judge in line with the wishes of the prosecution.

In provisional detention

This 48-year-old man was arrested this Thursday. The attack took place on tram line 4 and the victim immediately filed a complaint. The perpetrator was particularly insistent and aggressive in order to find out whether his interlocutor, a Parisian traveler, was Jewish or not. He left the train shouting "Jew of shit". A video posted on social networks allowed him to be formally identified and traced back to his home.

At the end of his pre-trial detention, this Montpellier resident will be tried this Monday afternoon before the judicial court as part of an immediate appearance.
