ANTICOSTI ISLAND | Québec grants $ 3.2 million to the refurbishment of the oil depot of the island of Anticosti, the only source of supply of fuel to the island.
This was announced by the minister of Energy and natural Resources, Jonatan Julien, at a press conference in Port-Meunier, on the island.
“The repair of the infrastructure in place is critical to meet the needs of the population and to support the local economy, including the forestry operations and recreational activities”, has argued his cabinet, by way of a press release on Thursday.
This grant, awarded to the Cooperative of consumption of the island of Anticosti, is to allow repairs made necessary following a first phase of work in autumn 2019. They should be able to extend the useful life of the reservoirs and ensure security and compliance, has indicated the law firm of Jonathan Julian.
“The supply of hydrocarbons is an essential service for the island of Anticosti. It is important to be able to count on safe facilities and comply with current standards. The work of restoration of the oil depot will contribute to the economic recovery, particularly in the region of Côte-Nord”, is it specified.
