The European Commission should accept the American giant's proposal to offer another contactless payment solution than Apple Pay, ending almost two years of legal battle.

Soon you will no longer need to use Apple Pay to make contactless payments. The American giant, which had announced that it wanted to open up to competition to avoid sanctions from the European policeman, should finally approve its proposal approved by the anti-competitive regulators of the European Union, starting next month.

According to Reuters, cited by BFMTV, the origin of the case dates back to May 2022, when the European Commission had accused Apple of blocking competition in contactless payment systems, by imposing its Apple Pay service on users of its mobile phones.

For the executive, the American company "abused its dominant position in the mobile wallet markets"< /em>, by preventing competing solutions from working on its devices.

Apple complied with the requirements

Apple therefore complied with the requirements and unveiled last January a solution to allow third-party payment providers to freely use the NFC capabilities of the iPhone.

Apple indicated that developers of other applications could thus redirect their users via links outside the Apple ecosystem to make payments.

This solution should be accepted by the European Commission in May. But first the American giant must make some changes, underlines BFMTV. It could remain in force for the next ten years.
