Five archers will participate in the French youth 18-meter shooting championship which will begin Friday February 23 in Grenoble. A graduate of the Arc club in Nîmes, Estelle Luzet Choteau has a chance of winning gold in her category.

Five young archers from Gard, a number selected a little below the usual figures, are participating in the French youth 18-meter shooting championship which begins today in Grenoble and will continue until ;to Sunday: Estelle Luzet Choteau (Nîmes) and Kelyne Jaffuel (Milhaud) in U15, Océane Joussein (Manduel) in U18, Hadrien Gerbaulet Hazard and Robin Roty, both from Nîmes, in U21. The five compete in recurve.

A shooting range installed at his grandparents' house

The best chance of a podium is for Nîmes hopeful Estelle Luzet Choteau, who trains five times a week and even does some shooting at her grandparents' house where a shooting range has been installed. Second national U15 archer with 574 points out of 600, the one who finished third in her category last January in the Nîmes tournament, is one of the favorites of the competition.

Tightened level

The title should be played between her and Aurore Lapouge, licensed at Riom, current French number one (576 points). "Theoretically, yes, confirms Olivier Grillat, sports director of the Arc club of Nîmes, but the level is tight, the first five are held by a few points so it will be necessary to pass the first rounds without damage. But, I have confidence. Estelle, in addition to being talented, is hardworking and very diligent."

In this same U15 category, in constant progress, Milhaudoise Kelyne Jaffuel (n° 37) should be able to get out of qualifying (the best 32 are taken) with the aim of reaching the round of 16. "It's not impossible, believes Olivier Grillat, but it's his first “France”, everything will depend on how he manages his emotions."< /p>

Exit qualifying, the objective of the other Gardois

In U18, despite a lack of consistency, Manduelloise Océane Joussein (n° 21) showed, by winning during the regional championship, that she could reach a level national match. "She is not one of the favorites but she can easily be one of the thirty-two qualified", assures Grillat.

The Nîmes U21s Hadrien Gerbaulet Hazard (n° 25) and Robin Roty (n° 30), they too, are not favorites but "they have the potential to pass the qualifications and then advance in the individual table, notes Olivier Grillat. Reaching the quarter-finals would be nice."
