According to a joint study carried out by the Conséquences association and the start-up Callendar, more and more houses are affected by foundations that move and cracks that appear on the walls. A new application, available since Thursday, May 23, allows you to assess the level of risk in your home.

This is another of the sad consequences of climate change, which affects more homes than we think: more and more houses are cracking. ;In practice, many homes are built on clay soil, which with the multiplication and intensification of droughts, swells and contracts, thus causing the foundations of homes to move and causing the appearance of cracks on the walls.

According to a report from the Conséquences association, more than 16 million homes will be affected by the phenomenon by 2050, thus generating repairs estimated at more than two billion euros per year . Occitanie is one of the seven most affected French regions, and according to data from the Caisse centrale de Réassurance (CCR), half of its inhabitants are exposed to the risk of a cracked house.

Three calculated risks

To realize the risk, Consequences and the start-up Callendar, specializing in the assessment of climate risks, are launching this Thursday, May 23, a platform that allows individuals to assess the risks on their home.

By entering the data concerning your accommodation (address, type, shape of the building and existence of a basement), the application unveiled by our colleagues at TF1 precisely calculates the three risk parameters of cracked houses: soil risk – or risk of shrinkage-swelling of clays (RGA), climate risk – or risk of soil drought – and finally the vulnerability of the building.

The application also allows you to redirect to "good practice guides" to avoid or limit the risks of cracks in houses facing the RGA. A good way to find out about a potential real estate purchase.
