Arthur Cazaux: “Another victory in two sets, it’s encouraging”, “I can only enjoy tournaments like that”

Reached by telephone, Arthur Cazaux was pleased with the content displayed during his victory in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai against the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (6-4, 7-6 [2] ) Tuesday February 27, before facing the Russian Andrey Rublev (5th in the world) in the next round.

How do you feel after this victory ? 

I'm happy with my performance with another victory in two sets, it's encouraging. I'm quite satisfied because I didn't start the match very well because I pulled myself together in the middle of the first set. Afterwards I knew how to set up my game well, on the serve or at baseline level. It was a solid match from me against a good, highly ranked player, so those are good wins. 

How did you feel physically, with two matches in your legs and after a period without playing ? The foot is holding up ? 

Yes the foot is holding up so that's rather encouraging. Physically, I arrived not necessarily 100% physically ready but little by little I feel better and better, so that's cool. I hope I will continue to gain strength during the week.

What satisfied you most during your match ? 

If I had to remember just one thing… I liked my commitment to the important points. Even in the moments when I was down 0-30, I really had good intentions, I knew how to be aggressive, turn around my forehand with whom I ;I scored a lot of points today. 

Andrey Rublev in the next match, a very highly ranked player in the first round, what do you expect from you ? 

It's going to be a big match against a top 10, I lost against him at the US Open (first round 2023) so I want to take my revenge. I know it's going to be a big fight but I have weapons to use in these conditions. This is going to be an interesting match and I can't wait to see what happens.

You have a start full of first times, right ? 

Yes that's for sure, whether at the Australian Open or here my first 500 draw. I'm happy, I'm on good continuity . I will then play my first Masters 1000 tables in the coming weeks so it will be nice what it will give. I'm happy, I continue to play well, to progress well and that's the important thing. 

You always have a lot of fun ?

Yeah, honestly yeah. I can only enjoy tournaments like that, the hotels, the conditions are good, it's hot… If we don't enjoy it there, I don't think we'll enjoy it anywhere. 

Especially since you have nothing to lose in these tournaments ? 

No, that's for sure, afterward I know that I'm capable of winning matches on this kind of table, I know what I'm worth. I still have a ranking where I only play higher ranked players so on paper I have nothing to lose. But I also want to do well too but I approach matches well. so that's good.
