Artur Jorge, one of the greatest coaches in the history of Paris Saint-Germain, has died

Champion d'Europe avec le FC Porto puis de France avec le PSG, Artur Jorge, emblématique entraîneur portugais, est décédé à l'âge de 78 ans, a communiqué sa famille ce jeudi 22 février. 

It was the family of the Portuguese coach who announced this terrible news which has hit Portuguese football, but also Parisian football. "It is with deep sadness that the family of Artur Jorge Braga de Melo Teixeira announces his death this morning in Lisbon after a long illness. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by members of his closest family."

European Champion with Porto, France with Paris

A memorable career as a player and then as a coach, Artur Jorge left his mark on the lawns of Academica and Benfica (where he won the championship 4 times, and 2 national cups), with his immense talent of footballer. 

He also wore the colors of the Portuguese selection on 16 occasions before becoming its coach, a few years later. But it's during his coaching career, where he traveled more, that Artur Jorge wrote his legend. 

At FC Porto (from 1984 to 1987, then from 1989 to 1991) he won three championships (1985, 1986 and 1991), the Champions League in 1987, then three Super Cups (1985, 1987 and 1991 ) and a single Portuguese Cup, won in 1991. 

He will also write the history of Paris Saint-Germain after his successful stint at Porto, where he will bring the capital club to the roof of France by winning the championship , in 1994. 

Artur Jorge was also on the benches of Tenerife, Al-Hilal, CSKA Moscow and even Cameroon, before ending his coaching career after a brief stay at MC Alger.
