ASBH: “This whole territory lives for rugby”, “We pushed to the end with our weapons”, Pierre Caillet looks back on the victory against Brive

The manager, still with stars in his eyes, recounted an evening that will remain engraved in the history of the ASBH. Midi Libre – SYLVIE CAMBON

After the narrow victory against Brive (33-31), the manager of ASBH, Pierre Caillet, looked back on his team's success.

It was the victory of the heart against Brive, Friday evening ?

Yes, it’s definitely the victory of the heart. We showed enormous self-sacrifice. It’s the victory of everything we have represented for quite some time too, quite simply. We have a group that is united, that gets going, we believe in ourselves, we play a style of game that suits us, in which we believe, so we pushed to the end with our weapons.< /p>

The public played a particular role in this success ?

Yes… there is also this audience, which transcends us… Sincerely in these moments. We didn't have many weapons before the meeting, the public was one of them…

A turbulent conquest but a victory full of character, where did the players go to find the resources to impose themselves?

We knew very well that it was going to be tough in the conquest sector. We know the qualities of this Brive team, they have proven it again. Strategically, they approached the match rather well with a style of play that is different from ours, but which can be just as effective, as we saw throughout the match.

We have several strong points. From time to time it can be the game in front, we can be solid in conquest. We are a team that is capable of adapting and feeding on a few things to simply play good rugby. We often manage to find solutions and they often come through, always the same, this desire to do things and to have temperament, so let's stay as we are for the moment.

Personally, did you have doubts on the edge of the lawn ?

I don't want to seem arrogant, but every time we played a little ball, that we recovered balls on counter-attacks, you feel that we were capable of doing enormous things. Often in these matches, you always have one last chance and I said to myself “if we manage to get it…” I told them all the time: “We're going to win, we're going to win”. I was hoping to have this ball, this fifteen minutes of madness because I knew that here, behind us, we were going to have a p… of energy and that’s what we managed to do. A little stressful, but no doubt.

A test in the last ten minutes after 80 meters climbed, what did you think at that moment?

Hold the ball for four minutes… it’s the 31st match of the season, we have some twists of fate… We are called diminished, losers and ultimately this group proves that anyone who wears this jersey is capable of doing things because we all built it together. We all share the same philosophy.

We saw the last defensive sequence of the ASBH, in an incandescent stadium, a strong moment for you ?

Obviously, the atmosphere when you experienced the Covid period, not many people at the club, the atmosphere is enormous, you feel a little high. You have to live these moments. When you experience matches like that, you come out with a lot of experience, that's what's good about this club.

The city has been waiting for this for a long time…

Of course the city waits for moments like this. Not just the city, I'm also talking about the villages: Servian, Saint-Chinian, Maraussan, Plages d’Orb, Cazouls… this entire territory lives for rugby. There is an identity, we have young people who have come through these clubs who play in the first team. We wanted to write one more line to everything that had been done before us. It’s not possible to match them. We have a heritage, we just have to try to pass it on.
