MISE À DAY

SHARING

Canadian-American actress Pamela Anderson, who rose to prominence on the covers of Playboyand who made an impression in the 1990s with the hit TV series Baywatch, is a far cry from the myth of the blonde in the luscious chest that knows how to do nothing but accumulate amorous conquests. After being the subject of a documentary, the 56-year-old star, who has often been compared to Marilyn Monroe, is releasing an autobiography, now available in French. She is an intelligent, determined, but also wounded, assaulted, violated and fragile woman who reveals herself without filter.

No question for Pamela Anderson to call on a biographer, a collaborator or a “ghost” author to tell her story. She wanted to do it herself, even though she had been told it would be difficult. – she while specifying that the process was much more arduous and longer than what she had anticipated. Nevertheless, the result exceeds expectations.

After her documentary released on Netflix in January 2023, Pamela a love story, her book, Love, Pamela, goes even further. We understand that she is a survivor of Hollywood, no more and no less.

Her story, interspersed with poems, is told with openness, because she is aware of being an imperfect person who has led a imperfect life surrounded by imperfect people knowing nevertheless that one must learn to live happiness in the very heart of the turmoil.

“We can never depend on others for our own happiness,” she stresses.

Rape and injuries

From the outset, we understand that his childhood was difficult. She was born on Vancouver Island in British Columbia in 1967 to loving parents, but very young to have a child. His mother was only 17 when he was born, and his father, 19. They married while pregnant to silence the gossip. The family lives in a small wooden cabin, the father, an alcoholic, tinkers and repairs ovens and plays with cars while the mother is a waitress.

Pamela will be sexually assaulted by her babysitter repeatedly from the age of six to ten. At 12, she will be raped by a 25-year-old man and will be raped again, shortly after, during a gang rape.

She could have hated men, but despite her suffering, Pamela knows how to forgive.

Moreover, during his adult life, men still made him suffer. His love affairs were so numerous that it is difficult to list them all. We can at the very least say that she had six husbands, including the violent Tommy Lee, with whom she had two children. She filed for divorce, being a victim of domestic violence.

Dazzling career

Aware of her beauty and charisma, she began a career as a model and moved to Vancouver . She was quickly noticed, notably by Playboy magazine. At 22, Pamela agrees to strip and makes the cover of the magazine more than once. She also holds the record for Playboy covers.

After being the playmate of the month, she decides to settle in Los Angeles. After a few roles in cinema and on TV, in 1992 she landed the role of Casey Jean Parker in the series Alerte à Malibu (Baywatch) which made her a star. international. Quite a gift for her.

“I love the ocean, diving, jet skis and doing my own stunts”, says Pamela in her book.

If at the start, she is not the one who receives the biggest fee, from the fourth season, she becomes the highest paid actress of the series which has been broadcast in 150 countries. And there were even “Pamela” clauses, because some international broadcasters only bought the episodes where she appeared.

Despite her successes, Pamela is continually the subject of much criticism. We don't hesitate to say that she is a beautiful, brainless blonde with a generous chest, but that she is not a real actress and that she only gets roles for her looks or her relationships with men. and not for her acting.

Besides, Pamela has never won an Oscar, she rather won the Razzie Awards given to the worst actress – more than 'a recovery.

Great activist

Great lover of nature and animals, Pamela forgets herself by giving to others during her great moments of turmoil .

She became an activist in particular for the conservation of the oceans and tropical forests. Like Brigitte Bardot, to whom she has been compared, she is involved in the defense of animals, fighting among other things against the wearing of fur and leather clothing, as well as against the production of handbags. in leather, inviting women to abandon them. She went so far as to demand a boycott of KFC fast food restaurants after learning various cruel practices towards poultry, which also led her to advocate vegetarianism.

A frankly authentic book full of anecdotes that shows us the other side of the coin.
