At the René Gosse high school in Clermont: "Here, we don't forget anyone"

Le proviseur Jean-Yves Viain fait sa deuxième rentrée au lycée de Clermont.

This is your second start here as principal. You are following in the footsteps of your predecessor. You have to make adjustments, according to the requirements of the National Education system, but do you bring your own personal touch to the René Gosse high school ?

There are inevitably educational or program developments, the implementation of the new baccalaureate… […] Obviously, we follow. A fresh eye sometimes allows us to spot small things to improve or change. We test, we try. If it works, so much the better. If not, we try something else. For this new school year, we are setting up small touches of preparation for the Sciences Po competitions, at the IEP schools, internally, with our teachers, who have the skills. We are bringing something extra to these students. It is not elitism, the students are asking for it and I think it is our mission to support them. We are also setting up a prep course for prep classes (Math, physics, etc.). It's a bit ambitious, but we know that these students will apply to enter preparatory class next year and we want to support them, equip them, so that they arrive with as many assets as possible. That's one of our roles. And I'm happy because the teachers have understood the message and are also bearers of projects and ideas in relation to all of this.

René Gosse is also a “characteristic” establishment.

Yes, because at the same time, here, students with special educational needs are supported in an exemplary manner. It's really set up. The students are really supported to the maximum of their possibilities. Whether it's through human support or educational adaptation. Our school nurse is the point of contact for these students. She does a remarkable job. Mr. Irrmann, my predecessor, had told me about it, and I was really impressed by this consideration of the entire teaching team. Here, no one is forgotten. And we do not forget, either, the students who need more in relation to their ambition and their future studies.

The establishment participates in the actions and commemorations of Bir Hakeïm (conferences, exhibitions…)

Yes, we are indeed partners of the Amicale du Maquis de Bir Hakeïm, to involve our students. It is quite natural for us because, regularly, actions are carried out in relation to this time of the Resistance and the Second World War, in connection with the name of the high school*. Tuesday September 10, in the morning, all the final year students will participate in what is proposed at the Espace des Dominicains. And, on Saturday 14, the volunteer students and teachers will be present at the commemoration, in Mourèze, at 10 am, on the site of the Maquis memorial. I will of course be there.

René Gosse, born in Clermont on August 16, 1883, was a great mathematician and a great resistance fighter. After obtaining two baccalaureates at the Clermont high school, he left for the Grenoble faculty, as Dean. In December 1943, in the Alps, René Gosse and his son Jean were arrested by the French militia. Their lifeless bodies were found the day after the arrest. I subscribe to read the rest
