“At times, I get tired. But I am proud of our achievements,” Jean Hannart, mayor of Sainte-Croix-Vallée-Française

Jean Hannart, maire de Sainte-Croix-Vallée-Française, était présent au salon des maires et des collectivités locales à l’espace événements de Mende, ce jeudi 19 septembre 2024. Il est venu quérir des conseils pour gérer au mieux sa commune.
“Hello, how are you ?” Jacques Blanc, minister for eternity, is like a cock in dough in the aisles of the mayors' lounge, Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Mende events space. Greetings are ringing out everywhere. A high mass that allows everyone, elected officials and local authority leaders, to seek advice and contacts from decision-makers, financiers and institutions. Jean Hannart, mayor of Sainte-Croix-Vallée-Française, does not fail to greet the former mayor of La Canourgue, with a smile.
The importance of municipal deputies
"The projects we are working on call upon many interlocutors present here." A timely meeting for the councillor, who will thus be able to meet all the influencers in a single day. "We encounter administrative complexity which means that, very often, we end up not being able to do things that were easy to do at the start", adds Jean Hannart, a little disappointed. Citing for example the multi-financing: "The Department, the Region, the State, which itself is divided. I don't want to talk about millefeuille, but it's complicated.”
This lounge is also friendly: “Between mayors, we have the opportunity to see each other and we cheer each other up”, laughs Jean Hannart. First magistrate of a town of 300 inhabitants, his town hall does not have the means to offer itself a communication service, the elected official prefers to insist on the importance of the municipal team: “I work with three deputies, who all have an essential utility. Our constituents often want to contact the mayor, while the deputies often know the files better."
A pride in the work accomplished
The elected official also came to meet with representatives of the National Forestry Office (ONF), the Territorial Directorate (DDT) :“I want to talk about the fire risk. Asking people to clear 50 metres around their homes is difficult for elderly people. They can't get up on the benches and they will have to call on companies that are not necessarily available, or quotes that they cannot always afford. I would like to see the levels of requirement of the State services and, perhaps, better organise the prevention system before moving on to sanctions. Perhaps see with financiers what can be done. Or imagine methods of weeding with animals (eco-grazing)."
Here is the mayor, walking the aisles, transformed into a representative of the interests of his administrators. "There are times when I get tired. But at the same time, I am proud of myself, of my deputies, of the municipality when I see our achievements." Reference made to the phytoremediation installation recently installed in Sainte-Croix. "But ten years to complete this work is far too long." A Way of the Cross.
