Baby seat: a choice dictated by your way of traveling by bike

Comme d’autres éléments, un siège ne se choisit pas à la légère. Midi Libre – codo

Cette semaine, Le Nez dans le Guidon vous guide dans ce choix important. Allez, en selle !

Before choosing a seat model, go to your bike dealer with your frame to check compatibility! For a seat at the rear of the bike, two choices are possible: installed on the luggage rack or attached to the seat tube.
For attachment to the luggage rack, you will find it with a clamp tightening wheel (with or without anti-theft key), or with a fixing plate suitable for certain pre-equipped luggage rack models.
The luggage racks have a CE standard authorizing 25 kg of load and are at least 22 cm wide. Check compatibility with very wide luggage racks that integrate the battery. Affordable models also exist, fixed by a fixed plate.
Choose a bike with a wide enough tire width to provide a little cushioning and comfort. The options are numerous: armrests, reclining seat, protection against the cold and rain. There is a choice!

For him too, headphones are mandatory!

For the seat tube attachment, not all bikes are compatible. Tightening must be carried out with a torque wrench and checked regularly. They provide great cushioning! In both cases, remember to secure the safety strap to the seat tube.

For a seat at the front of the bike (reserved for toddlers), it is attached to the head tube. The child sees the road, he has the impression of steering (some seats even include a mini handlebar). Be careful not to drive too fast, especially in winter, with the wind in your face! Some brands include a small windshield, it’s practical.

Beware of the risk of getting caught in your foot!

Tip: the neck cushion is very useful when the shrimp falls asleep. For adults, there is the junior seat, with or without backrest, or the cushion with footrest and protection. Last thing: a helmet is obligatory! And, above all, do not carry your child without rear footrests and/or wheel protections! The consequences of a foot being caught by the rear wheel are dramatic.
