Bad surprise for the wallet: are you one of the millions of taxpayers automatically deducted today ?

This Thursday, September 26, 2024, nearly 10 million taxpayers will be debited by the tax authorities. This amount corresponds to the balance to be paid for income tax for 2023. 

This Thursday, September 26, as every year, several million taxpayers will have their bank accounts automatically withdrawn by the tax authorities. This amount corresponds to the remaining income tax to be paid for 2023. In other words, if your tax notice shows an amount to be paid, you will be debited.

Nearly 10 million tax households concerned 

Nearly 10 million tax households are concerned. "This is for example the case sif the amount that was deducted at source from your income in 2023 did not cover all of your tax or if you benefited in January 2024 from an advance of reductions or tax credits that was too large” specifies the Ministry of Finance in a press release.  

The deductions are automatic 

If the amount is less than 300 euros, it is deducted from your account in one go. If this amount is greater than 300 euros, it will be withdrawn in four installments: Thursday, September 26, Friday, October 25, Monday, November 25 and Friday, December 27, explains the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP). Please note that the amounts of your withdrawals are specified on your tax notice.

They are automatically made on your account. In order to identify it on your bank statement and avoid any scams, it will bear the mention ("DIRECTION GENERAL DES FINANCES PUBLIQUES") and will be labeled ("SOLDE IMPOT REVENUS 2023"). 

The possibility of paying online 

In the event that your direct debit is rejected or if your bank details are not recorded, it is possible to pay the amount online, on the website impots.gouv.fr. If the amount is less than 300 euros, it is also possible to go to an approved partner to pay the amount by credit card, cash or check.
