Video games from here triumph

#OCCITANIE – The Pegasus, the equivalent of the Césars for video games, brought triumph to the region's studios. Rundisc, based in Toulouse, is crowned best game of the year with Chants of Sennaar, a fascinating investigation into a Tower of Babel. Ubisoft Montpellier leaves with three awards, including best mobile game for its dive into the trenches with Unknown Soldiers: Brothers in Arms. The best first game is also from Montpellier, En garde!, a swashbuckling adventure imagined by the young studio Fireplace Games.

The number of the day

#AVEYRON – The father who attacked the director of the Flaugergues school on Monday in Rodez was sentenced to two years in prison and a ban on residence in Aveyron for a period of five years upon his release from detention. The man "apologized" for the insults and threats uttered, without acknowledging the spitting in the face . The court recalled that several handrails had been filed by the school director against this father, with a record already loaded with 16 convictions.

Agnès Varda will soon have her collector's stamp

#SETE –  On April 2, La Poste will issue a stamp bearing the image of Agnès Varda, photographer, filmmaker and visual artist, who died five years ago. An issue that meets a rule: "That of releasing a stamp bearing the image of a personality only five years minimum after their death", specifies Sétois Michel Subra, president of the Sétoise Philatelic Union, consulted for the sale. The stamp is illustrated with a photo of Agnès Varda posing with… Zgougou, his cat. The Sétois will be able to enjoy it. Exceptionally, from March 29 to 31 inclusive, a temporary La Poste office will open in Sète, at 17 rue André-Portes, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., for an early sale.

Flood, wind and warnings

#OCCITANIE –Real autumn weather! The day and evening of Saturday were marked by a cocktail of rain and squalls, with wind gusts of 100 to 110 km/h and sometimes even 120 km/h locally. Gard and Hérault were placed on orange alert due to the risk of flooding and heavy rainfall fell in particular on the Cévennes, forcing communities to prohibit access to certain routes. Lozère, for its part, was placed in rain-flood orange. More than 100 mm of water was recorded in the Lozère Cévennes at the start of the evening. Météo France had warned that the rain-snow limit could fall and impact traffic on the A75.

A building collapses in the city center

#TOULOUSE –On the night of Friday March 8 to Saturday March 9, a three-story building collapsed a few steps from Place du Capitole, in Toulouse. The town hall of the Pink City had issued a danger order on this building a few days earlier. The building, which has nine homes and two businesses, was evacuated that same day, reports La Dépêche du Midi. "We heard a huge noise. I was very scared", confided a local resident, quoted by our colleagues. The man also describes that a "thick smoke"  invaded the street. Although the damage was impressive, no casualties appeared to be reported. Several teams of firefighters, Smur and police explored the area all day Saturday. In total, fifty firefighters, as well as a dog team, were deployed. The entire perimeter was cordoned off and Rue Saint-Rome was closed to the public. Around twenty residents of neighboring buildings were evacuated and had to be rehoused.
