The world-famous singer Cesaria Evora died eight years ago as a result of cardiopulmonary failure. And today, August 27, Cesaria Evora could celebrate 78 years. In honor of the birthday, Google dedicated a Doodle to the singer. It shows Cesaria Evora singing in the background of the sea.

The legendary singer was born in the Cape Verde Islands and sang in such musical genres like Morna, Fado and modinha.

Cesaria Evora, known by the nickname “Barefoot diva”, as invariably, went on stage barefoot. Thus the legendary singer was trying to draw attention to poverty in her homeland – Cape Verde (Republic located on the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic ocean 600 km off the coast of Africa).

Cesaria Evora – biography

Cesaria Evora was born in 1941 in Mindelo (city in Guinea-Bissau) in a family of musician and cook. After his father’s death and the cause of poverty in the age of seven her mother gave her in an orphanage. Since 17 years, Cesaria Evora has worked as a singer in bars.

Only 43 years in Lisbon, the singer recorded his first album. A few years later Cesaria Evora went on a tour of Europe and gained worldwide popularity in 1992, after the release of their fourth album, “Miss Perfumado”.

Due to health issues in 2011 the singer announced the completion of a career. A few months later, on 17 December 2011 Cesaria Evora died because of cardiopulmonary insufficiency and hypertension.
