Bay of Beauport: Cigale will sing soon

The Cigale event was originally scheduled to be presented in 2019, but the pandemic decided otherwise. Three years later, the festival which combines music, food and beach will live, Saturday and Sunday, on the edge of the river, in the Bay of Beauport, its very first edition.

“I can't wait to see our baby born. We've been talking about it for so long, with all the postponements that there have been due to COVID-19, ”launched Dominique Goulet, director of programming, on Wednesday, during a telephone interview.

A few minutes before the Australian Kim Churchill – one of the 16 guest artists, who was to be there in 2019 – offers a surprise performance of about thirty minutes on the terrace of the Archibald microbrewery in the Petit Champlain district .

City and Colour, Kaleo, Andy Gramme and Portugal. The Man are the headliners of this first edition.

We will also find Fitz and The Tantrums, Forest Blakk, Allan Rayman, Kid Francescoli, the Hay Babies, Marième, The Franklin Electric, CRi, Kim Churchill, Robert Robert, Milk & Bone and Pierre Kwenders. The artists will follow one another, from 2:30 p.m., on two stages set up directly on the beach of Beauport Bay.

Dream scenario

All confirmed groups will be present and the weather should be favourable. Especially for the day on Saturday.

“It's the dream scenario”, dropped the director of programming, preferring not to talk too much about the weather, out of superstition. 

< p>The site will take shape from Thursday and assembly will continue during the day on Saturday. A decision made to allow regular users of the Baie de Beauport to enjoy the beautiful days on the site until the Cigale event is held. 

With the variants that are present, a few B-plans are in place in case COVID-19 affects some artists by the weekend. 

“We have B plans and we also have the possibility of playing with the duration of the performances of the different artists. I'm not too worried about that. I have noticed, over the past few months, with the shows that have been presented at the Videotron Center, that the tours are super responsible and super careful when it comes to COVID-19,” she noted. 

Satisfied

With sales that have been a little slow since the packages went on sale, Dominique Goulet is satisfied with this that she is seeing at the moment. 

“We must not forget that this is a first edition. It's going to be great and the atmosphere is going to be interesting. This is a first, and it is an opportunity to tame the event. I am confident for the future,” she said of the future of Cigale, which will return every summer.

A maximum of 10,000 spectators will be admitted to the site for each of the days. 

“We don't want it to be too gigantic and too busy. We want it to be something on a human scale. Which is the DNA of our event,” she said, referring to a relaxed, California-style atmosphere.
