The deliberative assembly meeting on Wednesday, September 25, validated various provisions concerning daily life issues such as mobility.
Daily life was discussed at the municipal council on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The deliberative assembly validated various provisions concerning subjects such as mobility and securing pedestrian streets. Deputy mayor for works and urban planning, Philippe Berthomieu presented the cycle path development plan. The first structuring project will start this fall on Avenue du Commando Vigan-Braquet, serving schools in particular. “This project constitutes a credible alternative to the car for short-distance daily travel” “said the rapporteur of the deliberation Philippe Berthomieu. This plan was produced in consultation with bicycle users and in particular the Gard O Climat association.
Pine trees felled
“What will happen to the pine trees, will they be cut down” asked opposition councillor Léopoldina Marquès-Roux. “The 21 pine trees that are in place will be felled” replied the mayor. The councilor also specifies that 31 other trees will be planted.“There are master plans for everything related to cycling, all that is good the municipal councilor of the minority camp Jérôme Jackel. On the other hand, for people with disabilities, when do we do it ?” asks in turn the municipal councilor of the minority camp, Jérôme Jackel. Qwhat do we do for the visually impaired, the hearing impaired and people with reduced mobility ? For them the sidewalks are broken up. We have falls of elderly people. When will we put the resources in place ?" The mayor's response: "There is an accessibility commission that meets on October 7, 2024 and is there to take care of all these developments".
Pedestrian streets
Another elected member of the opposition, Jean-Louis Morelli, returned to the charge. “It is commendable of you to take care of everything related to cycling and green energy. But there is a big problem in pedestrian streets. It is precisely the bicycles and scooters that go at full speed to the detriment of pedestrians. It would also be good to tackle this problem. One day there will be an accident.” Jean-Yves Chapelet listens and then answers: “A decree has been issued concerning scooters. It was necessary to put up prohibition signs at the entrance to pedestrian streets. They should be put up this weekend. We will then be able to fine offenders."
Tributes and wreaths of flowers
It is an understatement to say that, given the agenda, one might have thought that we were going to be treated to a technical council meeting reduced to acquisitions. The municipal council of this Wednesday, September 25, 2024 was nevertheless rich in lessons. In any case, it will remain an unprecedented session because it began with a minute's silence in tribute to the Harkis and other members of the auxiliary forces. “On this day, France pays tribute to these men and women who served our country with loyalty and bravery during the Algerian War” declared the mayor of Bagnols-sur-Cèze Jean-Yves Chapelet.
Three elected officials (1) were thus tasked with laying wreaths at the monument to those who died for France. Another unique feature of this council was that it ended with a second minute of silence to honor the memory of Maurice Soulier, president of the Bagnols-sur-Cèze cantonal committee of the Fnaca (2) who died (3) during the day of Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
The Saint-Gilles Block becomes the Espace Simone Veil
The city of Bagnols-sur-Cèze will honor Simone Veil, academic, former minister and European deputy, politician who passed the law on voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG). It will undoubtedly remain one of the highlights of the municipal council on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The mayor of Bagnols-sur-Cèze Jean-Yves Chapelet proposed to the deliberative assembly to name the Espace Saint-Gilles Place Simone Veil. “The municipality thus wishes to honor the memory of this great lady who marked history with her courage, her determination and her humanity” declared elected official Philippe Berthomieu. This initiative is part of an approach to promoting the Communal Space.
