Blood donation: an exceptional collection at the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes this Friday, June 14

On World Blood Donor Day this Friday, the French Blood Establishment is taking over the famous museum opposite the arenas for the second year in a row. Donors will be able to benefit from a free cultural visit.

Blood mixes with culture. This Friday, June 14, World Blood Donor Day, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) is organizing an exceptional collection at the Musée de la Romanité. Implemented for the first time a year ago, the operation is being renewed.

As in 2023, the donation room will be installed on the top floor, on the terrace. With a view of the arenas. Collection is open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., without appointment. A way to highlight the spontaneity of giving, according to Audrey Marron, responsible for promoting donations – Languedoc Basin at the EFS. Last year, the event attracted 38 new donors, out of 175 presented (volunteers not necessarily taken).

"Sensitive period"

For Friday, the objective is to reach the 180 presented. The EFS sets a limit, linked to logistics, of 200 donors . After their donation, they will have free access to the museum and the temporary exhibition "Achilles and the Trojan War". A gourmet snack will also be offered by the association of volunteer blood donors from Nîmes.

During the month of June, event collections take place throughout France. EFS Occitanie currently has 6,000 bags in stock. It would take 11 000 "to be comfortable", indicates Audrey Marron. The establishment hopes to increase reserves before the Olympics and the summer, "sensitive period". During major holidays, donation centers are generally less busy.

Blood drive without appointment this Friday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Musée de la Romanité. Donors must weigh more than 50 kg, be aged between 18 and 70 and have an identity document.
