L’équipe de France de BMX Freestyle park s’est envolée, hier, direction Enoshima au Japon pour la première étape de la Coupe du monde du 22 au 25 février.
It is on the other side of the world that the Blues begin a season which will take them on July 30 and 31 to the Place de la Concorde in Paris for the second appearance in the history of the discipline at the Olympic Games.
This summer, France will have ambition, in the wake of Anthony Jeanjean who will try to win the gold medal at home. In the meantime, the pilot from Sérignan (Hérault) and his partners wish to validate a vigorous preparation during the start of the World Cup from Thursday to Sunday: "The preparation was intense, he confirms . It was the time to learn new tricks and do enormous physical work."
"We planned everything until the Olympic Games, continues Edouard Carnet, the physical trainer of the French. The World Cup in Japan marks the end of a work cycle with the objective of getting one foot back into the competition after three months of training. During this period, Anthony trained eight to nine times a week. Over the last 15 days, we have reduced the volume while maintaining the intensity."
Jeanjean: "The best training is competition"
The Japanese event which should be disrupted by rain is not crucial in terms of result. Nevertheless, she activates the countdown to Paris. "It is one of the competitions that will allow me to measure myself against my opponents, keep pace physically and mentally but also to manage pressure, explains Jeanjean. I always say that the best training is competition to feel confident. Many athletes are not yet qualified and will have to get their ticket. This is an opportunity to see what they do, to meet them. It’s important to also test myself in very high-level competitions."
For the other French pilots, like Laury Perez or even Istvan Caillet and Kevin Fabregues, the challenge of these first months of competition is to secure or win a ticket for the Games during of the Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) in May and June. "I trained hard every day to start the season well, says Hérault resident Perez who should, barring any unpleasant surprises, be part of the Parisian adventure. We will have more confidence at the Games if we have a successful start to the season."
