Détenu par le groupe La Poste et SFR, l’opérateur de téléphonie mobile La Poste Telecom devrait être racheté par Bouygues Telecom. Un changement de propriétaire qui pourrait impacter les 2,3 millions de clients La Poste Mobile.
La Poste Mobile is set to undergo a major change. The Competition Authority validated its acquisition by Bouygues Telecom for €950 million on Monday, August 19. Created in 2011, La Poste Mobile has more than 2.3 million customers and a turnover of €300 million. A performance that has attracted the interest of major companies in the sector, including Bouygues Telecom, which became the final buyer after more than six months of negotiations.
However, in a press release dated last May, Bouygues Telecom explained that “differences between La Poste and SFR could have an impact on the timetable for completing the transaction”. If this sale were to be completed before the end of the year, it could be postponed by SFR.
"This repurchase operation remains conditional on the sale of its shares by SFR. On this last point and to our knowledge, the dispute between La Poste and SFR is still ongoing“, confirms Bouygues Telecom, in the columns of our colleagues at Capital.
What impact for subscribers ?
With this deal, Bouygues strengthens its position on the French market. Thanks to this purchase, the operator could diversify its offers and capture a wide audience. But this implies a change for La Poste Mobile customers. From 2026, the latter will be forced to switch to the Bouygues Telecom network.
Another change: by buying La Poste Mobile, Bouygues Telecom is eliminating a competitor. Result: competitive pressure on the market should logically be reduced and thus calm the price war
For its part, La Poste assures that its brand will not be distorted and that its services will continue in the 7,000 post offices in France. Contacted by Capital, the two groups remained silent on the subject of potential price changes to the packages.
