On the night of Friday 9 to Saturday 10 August, a fire broke out in a building in the city centre of Millau and caused no casualties.
The large ladder posted on rue Droite, in Millau, is impressive. The flames that ravaged the building located in the dead end rue Droite even more so. At around 2am, the firefighters of Sud-Aveyron intervened on a fire in the heart of Millau. They quickly brought under control the flames that broke out on the third floor “for a reason that is still unknown”, say the emergency services. The rapid intervention prevents the fire from spreading to adjacent homes. However, they can do nothing to limit the damage to the roof and the stairwell. It is difficult for the firefighters to advance in the building as the flames are so powerful. Their visibility from the heights of Millau is proof of this.

On site, firefighters rescued one person using the ladder and seven others were evacuated from the building at the time of the intervention. They will be rehoused and a woman is transported to Millau hospital due to smoke inhalation. 15 people were brought to safety by the national police. The electricity was cut off in the neighborhood while the on-call teams intervened.

22 firefighters on site
To quickly put out the fire, 22 firefighters are on site, including four with an ambulance from Saint-Rome-de-Tarn. Now, clearing work will take place in the building, by the firefighters. This should last all day with the help of the City services. An investigation will attempt to determine the causes of this disaster.
