Call for a strike from the Béziers National Education unions against level groups

Several national education staff unions are calling for a day of mobilization this Tuesday, April 2, to demand the abandonment of the “knowledge shock” measures, in particular level groups in college, but also for salaries and resources for public schools. In Hérault, the federation of parents, the FCPE, also calls on all parents not to send their children to class.

These level groups, announced by Gabriel Attal when he was Minister of National Education, must come into force at the start of the next school year for 6th and 5th grades, and at the start of the 2025 school year for 4th grades. ;and the 3rd. The government no longer talks about “level groups” but  groups "constituted according to the needs of the students". For Jacky Bowen, the president of the FCPE of Hérault, "they are organizing school separatism, which is even the reflection of practically social segregation".

A sorting of students

Christophe Bernard, professor of history-geography at the Henri-IV high school in Béziers and representative of the FSU, denounces for his part "a sorting of students , which will deal a blow to the college. "From the sixth grade, the students will be out of the class group for a third of their timetable, he warns, and it will be difficult to change groups. The priority, according to him, should focus on the recruitment of teachers and class numbers, as regularly reminded by the movements in the Dullague and Lucie Aubrac colleges, in Béziers, who are requesting their classification as a priority education network (REP) to have classes limited to 25 students.

The last movement in National Education, which concerned salaries, dates back to March 19. For this mobilization of April 2, the CGT, FO, FSU and SUD unions are calling for a strike and organizing a demonstration which will leave at 2:30 p.m. from the Comédie in Montpellier to go at the rectorate, where a delegation will ask to be received.
