Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for Canada to impose even more economic sanctions against Russia.
Mr. Zelensky said Monday he made the request in a phone conversation with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“We discussed the long-term military cooperation program. I noted the confiscation of Russian property and I asked for greater pressure with sanctions against Russia”, briefly summed up the Ukrainian leader on his Twitter account.
For his part, the office of the Prime Minister did not mention the request for additional sanctions in his report, but confirmed that the two leaders spoke of Ukraine's long-term support.
“The Prime Minister reiterated Canada's commitment to remain in solidarity with Ukraine by providing military, humanitarian, financial and other assistance, for as long as necessary”, summarized Mr. Trudeau's cabinet.
The two allies said they also discussed the topics that will be on the agenda at the next G7 summit to be held from May 19 to 21 in Hiroshima, Japan.
