Canadian: Corey Schueneman is back

The Montreal Canadiens recalled defender Corey Schueneman from the Laval Rocket on Saturday. 

The 27-year-old defender had played 24 games with the Habs in 2021-2022, but had not yet had the call of the big club this season. In 43 games with the American League academy club, Schueneman has hit the target five times and provided 13 assists for 18 points.

In addition, the CH indicated that defender Justin Barron wasn't injured and could be available for tonight's matchup against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

The 21-year-old appeared to be hurt last Thursday in the duel against the Carolina Hurricanes. Recalled from the Rocket at the end of December, Barron had two goals and four assists for six points in 18 games with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge.

The Nova Scotia native is a member of of the organization of the Canadian since March 21, 2022. It had been obtained in the transaction which had sent Artturi Lehkonen to the Colorado Avalanche.

Also, the Sainte-Flanelle registered the name of the defender Arber Xhekaj on the injured list.

“Arber is due to see a specialist in the next few days. An update will be issued after this meeting,” the club said on its Twitter account.

The first-year defenseman suffered the injury fighting in last Sunday's game against the Oilers Edmonton.

Xhekaj has five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 51 games so far in 2022-23.
