If the Nordiques made the jump to the National Hockey League in 1979 , it was not until 1982 that the rivalry with the Canadian really took off. It was enough for the two teams to meet for the first time in the playoffs.

“This is where the rivalry became the rivalry,” says Réjean Tremblay, co-producer of the documentary series.

The Quebec club, which had never been considered a threat before, had thus eliminated the Canadian thanks to a goal from Dale Hunter, in overtime, in the fifth and decisive game of the first round series.

“The goal of Dale, it was the consecration about the arrival of the Nordiques in the National League”, comes to summarize the former head coach Michel Bergeron, in the first episode of the series Canadiens Nordiques – The rivalry

“I get chills thinking about the fans and the atmosphere,” Hunter said. It wasn't the best goal of my life, but it was a big goal. »
