Cap d'Agde: at the top of the Iconic stairs, this freight elevator that is useless!

Gérard, a wheelchair user from Lunel, had the bitter experience of this during an evening at the theater.
Located at the level of the staircase which connects the Alsace-Lorraine car park to the brand new Iconic district, the freight elevator intended for people with reduced mobility recently played tricks on a couple from Lunel, came to attend a play at the Palais des Congrès in Cap d’Agde.
A seemingly modern neighborhood
For Gérard, forced to use a wheelchair, and his wife Catherine, there was nothing to worry about on paper. "The area is new, the Palais des Congrès is perfectly suitable, we did not expect to experience such a misadventure."
The mishap in question will not surprise residents of Iconic: the lifting platform in question, which allows people with reduced mobility to access the top of the stairs from the car park, does not ;rsquo;s simply never worked since it was installed, over 18 months ago now! To be convinced, you just need to take a look inside the basket: it is littered with boxes.
The delivery route as a solution
Fortunately that evening, the couple was accompanied by friends, which allowed them to get around the obstacle, so to speak. But Catherine is still a little angry. "We reported the problem to reception at the convention center," she explains. "We were kindly told that external access elements were not their responsibility. They even explained to us that this elevator had never worked and suggested that it was better to take the delivery route to park and load the wheelchair into the car once the room was finished."
Agathois facing mobility problems know that there are also access ramps that can be used. But in the case of Gérard and Catherine, who very rarely come to Cap d’Agde, the lack of information (and especially of operation) will still leave a little bitter taste.
