The Vigil Group and the Prospero Theater announced on Tuesday that Carmen Jolin will be stepping down from the artistic and general direction after having held these positions for 12 years.
Carmen Jolin joined Groupe de la Veillée in 1983, where she worked both on stage as an artist and behind the scenes in administrative positions. She succeeded Téo Spychalski at the helm in 2010, and will present a final program, for the 2021-2022 season, before leaving after careful consideration.
“This is the moment for me to close a rich and fruitful cycle which has given me many and deep satisfactions,” said Carmen Jolin. This demanding and so interesting exercise was nourished by the exchanges with the creators and by the projects carried out with their collaboration. All this enabled me not to stray from the meaning and the heart of theatrical action; directing was not for me a question of management and organization, far from it. “
The director underlines to what extent the Prospero has been able to develop “an artistic path rooted in an original practice of acting, in a powerful dramaturgical repertoire, open to the world”, but also by sharing its spaces and its experiences. A heritage which “will not be erased” and which the new generations will seize upon, she believes.
“My decision fits naturally into a long journey. From now on, I will direct my energies towards projects, personal activities with more freedom and at a different pace. “
The responsibilities of general management and artistic direction will henceforth be divided between two positions, announced the Groupe de la Veillée.
