CH: the last Quebec hat tricks
|UPDATE DAY
Rafaël Harvey-Pinard came within a whisker of scoring the first hat trick of his career in the National Hockey League (NHL), but after two goals on Thursday night, he was frustrated by the Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso.
Rare are the Quebecers in recent decades who have scored three times in the same game with the Montreal Canadiens.
At one time, several of them got there in the same year. In the last 25, there have been only five.
Mathieu Perreault (October 23, 2021)
In October 2021, the Canadian was not having a very good start to the season after reaching the Stanley Cup final. He ended a five-game losing streak to start the campaign by beating the Detroit Red Wings 6-1. Mathieu Perreault was the hero of that game with three goals. The entire Bell Center cheered on the Drummondville native for several minutes after his third goal in an empty net, which was the first moment of celebration of an already difficult campaign.
Phillip Danault (December 22, 2018)
Three years earlier, Phillip Danault was already terrorizing the Vegas Golden Knights with three goals at T-Mobile Arena. The Quebecer tied the game 3-3 with only 1 min 25 s to bring the two teams into overtime. The fast Paul Byron then decided in extra time, but the bulk of the spectacle was assumed by Danault. Prior to that hat trick, he had scored just two goals in 36 games that season.
Maxim Lapierre (December 29, 2008)

The last hat-trick by a Quebecer from the Habs dates back to 10 years earlier. The inimitable Maxim Lapierre had a natural hat trick (three straight goals) in a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers, the 3,000th in team history. At the time, Lapierre had joked that the goalkeeper had been a bit weak on his third goal, scored in an empty cage… In 2008-2009, the little plague of the Canadian was on his way to his best career harvest , or 15 goals and 28 points.
Yanic Perreault (January 21, 2002)
Another Perreault joins this list, Yanic. It is also the only losing cause of this list, the Canadian losing 7 to 5 against the Panthers despite the feat of the Sherbrooke resident. The brothers Pavel and Valeri Bure had dominated this meeting on the side of the local team. Before joining Sainte-Flanelle, Perreault had also scored hat-tricks with the Los Angeles Kings (twice) and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Vincent Damphousse (March 28, 1998) < /h3>
Damphousse, CH's best striker during his time in the 1990s, scored seven hat tricks in blue-white-red. His last came in a resounding 8-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Visibly inspired by the presence of singer Céline Dion at the Molson Centre, the Montrealer ended the evening with four points.
During this decade, Pierre Turgeon, Guy Carbonneau, Éric Desjardins, Gilbert Dionne, Stéphane Lebeau , Denis Savard and Stéphane Richer are the other players from La Belle Province to have accomplished this feat of arms.
