Chairs, tables and parasols: progress or not for the equipment required for the Comédie terraces in Montpellier ?

This Wednesday, the City brings together the seven cafe owners of Place de la Comédie to find out the progress of orders for new equipment. And there is work to do to hope to complete everything by the start of summer and the end of the work on the Esplanade.

This summer, will the establishments on the Place de la Comédie be homogenized? With all the same chairs, armchairs, tables and parasols. Only the colors allow the sites to be differentiated.

Free service provider

This is at least what the City of Montpellier hopes for and this is the reason why it is bringing together the seven professionals concerned this Wednesday: Crêperie de la Comédie , Pizzapapa, Trois Grâces, Grande brasserie, Riche, Yams and Café du Théâtre. Except that from the service provider initially imposed by the town hall, today everyone can choose their supplier.

"On a 200 € chair, you can win 50 €, underlines a cafe owner. But not everyone will be able to order. Some have already placed an order, others are in the process but there are some who cannot afford it, it will cost us very much."

Perspective and depth

Another new feature: perspective. More precisely, the terraces will be aligned: all will remain 6.30 m deep. On the other hand, the lengths will vary, from 26 m for the Riche to 8 m for the Trois-Grâces. An inequality that is enough to make one cringe. "What is the criterion to define the number of square meters to be allocated to each ?", worries this professional who hopes for an adaptation. Enough to open the discussions this Wednesday. The calendar is ticking. Especially if the terraces must be ready for this summer, at the time of the inauguration of the brand new Esplanade.
