Chaudère-Appalaches, an interesting destination

BET À DAY

Over the years, stakeholders in the Chaudière-Appalaches region have been able to develop a very interesting offer of trails and services for ATV riders.

“I believe that we are able to offer quad riders great opportunities to practice their favorite hobby, explains Louis Chamberland, from Tourisme Chaudière-Appalaches. Over time, this activity has grown throughout Quebec. For us, it's fine. We work a lot with the Federation on the Quad Route file. It is a backbone that extends into several regions of Quebec, including ours. We have developed a network of trails that are added to this route. Quad riders can do loops around the Quad Route. ”

Before the onset of the pandemic, clubs in the area worked very hard to develop the trail network.

< p>“Over the past few years, the clubs have developed a very nice network, easy to follow, with adequate signage. We have developed three important poles where amateurs can take full advantage of their hikes. »

THE POLES

From the Hôtel du Domaine, in Thetford Mines, there are some interesting loops to do, either towards the Domaine du Radar de Saint-Sylvestre, towards Mont Grand Morne in Sainte-Clotilde-de-Beauce or towards Vimy -Ridge and Coleraine. The landscapes are very varied since you will be in the Appalachians. Very close to Thetford Mines, the mining landscape is quite impressive.

The other departure point is in the area of the Massif-du-Sud regional park. We suggest that you start from Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice-de-Buckland. There is a parking lot near the church and the restaurant at the Pub de la Contrée. This village is at the foot of the Massif du Sud playground. During the hike, there are several breathtaking viewpoints. The trails are mainly wind turbine paths. They are very nice and wide.

You can take a multi-day trip to this part of the region by going to the Daaquam sector, and even see the American lines. Cottages Resorts & Pourvoirie Daaquam is a must stop.

As a third suggestion, there is the pole of the Tourville and Saint-Pamphile sectors. The starting point of your adventure is the large parking lot at Center sportif le Jasmin, in Tourville. You can eat there. For accommodation, we suggest La Maison du voyageur, in Tourville. During your stay, you could go to the Lac Trois-Saumons observatory, where you will discover a 360 degree view of the lake and the river. You can also spend a day in the Saint-Pamphile sector, with a stop at the Saint-Adalbert covered bridge.

These are just a few examples of what awaits you in this region. Quad riders are welcome twelve months a year. The circuit of trails increases considerably in winter.

SAFETY FIRST

Since the start of the season, there have been many accidents that have led to serious injuries and even death.

“Many people forget that they have a vehicle in their hands that gives them pleasure, yes, but which can become dangerous”, explains Marc-Olivier Bilodeau, the provincial safety supervisor for the Quebec Federation quad clubs.

“They must always see to the proper maintenance of their vehicle, not only the mechanics, but also the whole system of lights at the front and at the rear. The mirror on the left side of the vehicle is mandatory. They must have with them all the necessary papers, such as the driving licence, registration papers and the competency card for young people aged 16-17. It is forbidden to modify the exhaust system, and also, on side-by-side vehicles, to remove the doors or protective nets that serve as doors,” adds Mr. Bilodeau. /p>

“Passengers must be buckled up at all times in side-by-sides. Wearing a helmet with protective goggles or visor, closed shoes or even better boots is mandatory. Failure to wear a helmet remains the main infraction that we issue regularly. Looking at the list of deaths that have occurred, according to statistics, in 95% of cases, they are due to head injuries when people were not wearing a helmet”, he lists.

Fortunately for quad riders, the team of volunteer patrollers ensures safety on the trails. We have to thank them.
