Great show of solidarity after an article in Midi Libre
#HÉRAULTThe horizon has cleared a little for the Frontignan woman forced to sleep in her car with her disabled son after being the victim of a fake bank advisor scam. After the article was published, Midi Libre received offers of accommodation for her and her son. They were able to settle into a gîte in Gigean, kindly made available by the owner, who was a little moved by their fate. A respite that now allows them to look more serenely for their own accommodation or the miraculous allocation of social housing.
Biodiversity: Montbazin in the spotlight
#HÉRAULT The commune of Montbazin has received the title of “Best commune for biodiversity 2024”, in the “less than 20,000 inhabitants” category. This award, which does not contain any financial compensation, highlights the work of the community in favor of sobriety and biodiversity, this year's theme.
Already recognized as a “Territories committed to nature” (TEN) since 2020, the municipality has implemented numerous measures for several years to commit to this: the reduction of public lighting, the de-artificialization of the courtyards of the Valfalis primary school and land sobriety.
For Josian Ribes, the mayor, this competition shows “that a small municipality with few resources like Montbazin will succeed in doing significant things”. For example, in Montbazin, since 2021, the municipality has decided to limit lighting at night in order to preserve nocturnal wildlife but also human health.
The favorite castle
#CAP D’AGDE Winner of the regional final against the Gouffre de Padirac before the summer, the Château Laurens d'Agde took part on Wednesday, September 18, in the grand finale of the show “The Favorite Monument of the French 2024”, on France 3. In the end, out of the fourteen finalists selected by Internet users in July, the art nouveau folly of Emmanuel Laurens came in a very respectable 7th place, ahead of the Château de Fontainebleau in particular.
And if it was the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit that won this new edition, it was the reputation of the Château Laurens that gained ground speed. A welcome cathode ray exhibition on this Heritage Days weekend.
Wine fairs under state control
#HERAULT While the wine fair season is in full swing in large and medium-sized stores, the fraud squad carried out an inspection this Thursday in the aisles of the Lidl store in Saint-André-de-Sangonis, near Clermont-l’Hérault. “We have conducted 155 since the beginning of the year. In 15% of cases, the rules for putting items on shelves were not respected. A store near Clermont-l’Hérault was subject to an administrative fine of 10,000 euros", indicated the prefect. The primary objective of these checks is to ensure that the presentation of products on the shelves does not mislead the consumer.
Today's figure: 10,000
#MILLAU Nearly 10,000 participants are expected this Sunday, September 22, for the Millau viaduct race. A new formula is appearing for this edition of the 20th anniversary of the viaduct: a 12.8 km.
It simply includes the climb and crossing of the Norman Foster building and a return by shuttle from Larzac. For the traditional race (23.7 km), participants have 4 hours to complete the course.
