While price increases are still widely in the news, a few products escape the trend and even show a drop for the first time in a year.

Price drops in certain departments were noted by the Nielsen IQ firm, while the overall trend remains upward. However, these price drops are quite rare and according to 60 million consumers, who looked at the products concerned, they are even taking place for the first time in a year.

If food is not the main concern, certain edible products are however seeing their prices decrease.

Which commodities are showing falling prices ?

These include pasta, eggs but also more processed products such as chips, industrial sandwich breads and brioches, snacks, pizzas and even cold meats, notes 60 million consumers . On pasta and eggs, the price drops are even more significant for national brand products.

Other products are also in decline on the shelves of supermarkets. This is the case for shampoos, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, toothpaste, all products which had nevertheless increased little, underlines the magazine.

A still inflationary trend

Despite these declines, the trend is still upwards, underlines 60 million consumers. Through its inflation observatory, the magazine identified the ten families of foods that increased the most between April 2023 and April 2024.

Thus, fruit juices come out on top with an average change of 4.9%, followed by oils (4.6%), chocolate bars (4. 4%), canned vegetables (4.4%), beer (1.8%), but also canned fish (1.8%) ;; honey, compotes and jams (1.6%), butter, crème fraîche (1.4%), milk (1.3%) and sugar (1.1%) ;%).
