Cold, flu… or COVID-19?

Rhume, grippe... ou COVID-19?

Rhinoviruses circulating in the community and the queues reappear in front of the clinics.

Fever, sore throat, runny nose, many children come to the test screening at the clinic in Three Rivers.

It is that the symptoms of a cold are similar to those of the COVID-19. Since a few days, the number of screening tests is rising in the region.

“There is a friend who has a fever at daycare and he coughs. They have decided to test all young people,” said Thursday, a mom encountered by TVA News.

“It is almost sure that it is just a cold, but we said that we will not take a chance,” said a mother with her daughter.

The integrated Center for academic health and social services (CIUSSS) of the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec recommends that you make an appointment when you show flu-like symptoms. Even in cases of doubt, it is better not to take any chances. This message has already been well assimilated into the population.

“I’ve got just a symptom. I had a sore throat, so I came in case. But I’m pretty sure it’s just the air conditioning”, said a woman came to take the test.

The screening clinics are operating almost at their maximum capacity. In the Mauricie and Centre-du-Quebec, we reached the average of 500 tests per day, whereas at the beginning of the month of July, the number of screenings was to 200 tests per day.

The CIUSSS of the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec wants to change its strategy. The volume of screening will be doubled soon. The organization is seeking to recruit a sixty health professionals in order to lend a hand in clinics.
