Care services located outside the greater region of Montreal, Joliette and the Epiphany will, as of Monday, to accommodate more children in their facility, confirmed on Sunday the minister of the Family Mathieu Lacombe.
Public health has given the green light Sunday to a rise in ratios educator to child in the educational childcare services to children located in the cold zones, as envisaged in the scenario of re-opening phase-in of Quebec.
If the ratio above shall be allowed to the establishments in the cold area to accommodate 50 % of their usual customers, the CPE targeted by this new ad will now be able to receive up to 75 % of the number of children stated maximum for their license.
For child care in a family environment located in the cold zone, the responsible will now be able to accommodate a maximum of five children or seven if it is accompanied by a helper or an assistant.
“In addition to improving the quality of life of the families, this new phase of re-opening of child care services will allow many parents to return to the labour market”, welcomed the minister Lacombe by press release on Sunday.
Childcare services are located in the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM), the MRC of Joliette and the city of the Epiphany, which are only open for a week, will have to continue their activities according to a ratio set between 30 % and 50 % of the capacity.
If the situation continues to progress favorably, these could, however, increase their limit home to 50 % of the maximum number of children that is allowed as of the 15th of June.
Public health always requires the educators to dress in a surgical mask, disposable at any time, and add a protective visor when the distance can’t be done.
New ratios by the educator in the cold area :
- Up to 3 children under the age of 18 months
- Up to 6 children aged 18 months to less than 4 years
- At most 8 children aged 4 years and older
- In a family setting, the ratio will be 5 children if the head is only and 7 children if an assistant is present
