“Combining my pleasure with solidarity action”: Vincent Debruxelles will set off for 3,500km by bike

Le Pouzollais va parcourir plus de 3500 kilomètres à vélo.

Pouzollais since 2012, this cycling enthusiast of Belgian origin will rally the twelve partner hospitals of the Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque association for a major solidarity challenge.

What is the origin of this major project?

I had already been contacted a few years ago by Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque (editor's note: the association finances the heart surgery of more than 400 children who live in disadvantaged countries) to participate , as an amateur cyclist, at a stage of the Tour de France. Unfortunately, I was not able to take part due to an eye problem, but it made me want to take part in another solidarity action. So I had the idea, last year, of going to Brussels with my grandson, in order to raise funds for the League Against Cancer. This is what pushed me to do even more this year, by bringing together the twelve partner hospitals of the association from Pouzolles.

How much have you already collected before the big departure on May 21?

More than 1300 euros in the online prize pool. The director of the Super U of Roujan will also sponsor the project to the tune of 50 cents per kilometer traveled and also allowed me to hold a stand at the entrance to the store, where more than 800 euros were raised. could have been harvested.

What pushes you to embark on such an adventure?

The desire to help, quite simply. In particular all those children who do not have the chance to be cared for as they should. So as I am a great cycling enthusiast and I do not want to make a journey for my personal satisfaction alone, I prefer to associate my pleasure with a solidarity action. Especially since it also allows me to meet people and explain the mission as well as all the actions of this association.

A few days before the big departure, do you have a certain apprehension ?

No None. I'm even impatient. I am ready to sleep every night in campsites or with locals if I have a little luck. I trained well, everything was prepared for weeks. The only thing that is a little scary is the risk of storms on the road. But other than that, I'm confident everything will be fine.
